Alzheimer’s Support Program |
| |
Alzheimer’s disease attacks the brain and damages memory, thinking and behavior. About four million American adults are affected by the disease.
Alzheimer’s is considered a family disease since about 80% of the people with Alzheimer’s are cared for by spouses or adult children. Caregivers are often older adults who may have health or physical problems themselves. These problems may be made worse by the physical and emotional stress of Caregiving.
Caregivers need help to stay healthy and meet the often overwhelming demands of Caregiving, thus management of care is the key to dealing with Alzheimer’s disease.
Support Group Sessions:
Monthly support group sessions are offered and led by trained group facilitators. These meetings allow caregivers to meet other caregivers and find support from each other. Discussions help caregivers share their problems, concerns and emotions. Guest speakers or educational videos are often part of the evening program.
